Hogan Funeral Home, Highland Falls, NY BiographyAnalda Carrion Velez, of Fort Montgomery, and longtime resident of Highland Falls, died early Tuesday morning January 17, 2012, surrounded by loved ones at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, NY. Analda was born on November 15, 1927, in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, and was the daughter of the late Joaquin Carrion and Oria M. Elias. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Jose "Cheo" Velez.Mami (Juela to her grandchildren) worked for many years at the United States Military Academy in Laundry operations and as a seamstress. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her family and celebrating the many milestones in their lives. She made lasting impressions on everyone she met with her kindness and her genuine respect and interest in their lives. She loved to cook and was an excellent knitter and crocheter, leaving behind many pieces that will forever remind us of the love for her family as well as her talents, generosity and thoughtfulness. Analda was a devoted and loving mother to Tito Velez and wife Nancy of Marlboro, NY; Daisy Oldham and her husband Thomas of Fort Montgomery, NY; Ruben Velez and wife Karen of Boca Raton, FL; A. Luis Velez and wife Maureen of Highland Falls, NY; Nereida Velez-Forgrave and husband Robert of Millersville, PA; and Jose Velez Jr. and wife Lydia of East Islip, NY. In addition to her children, Mami is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren who simply adored her. In addition to her husband, Analda was predeceased by her sisters Irma and Nayda Pacheco and brother Manuel Pacheco. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20, from 4-7 PM at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Highland Falls, NY. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10AM Saturday, January 21 at Sacred Heart Church, 353 Main St., Highland Falls. A selfless woman who was always thinking of others even in her final days, it is fitting that the family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Sacred Heart Church or Town of Highlands Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 35, Highland Falls, NY 10928. |
