James H. Willis passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 after a long battle with Parkinsons. He was 80 years old. Son of the late John and Elizabeth Emmons Willis, he was born in Piscataway, NJ on March 22, 1937.
An Army "brat", he grew up at West Point where his father was stationed. He graduated from Highland Falls High School in 1955. In 1958, he married Marion Cole and they soon bought a house in Fort Montgomery where they raised their five children. Jim had started a furniture business right out of high school and in 1960 became a manager at Silverman Furniture. He later became the owner until his retirement.
Locally, Jim was a Sergeant for the Town of Highlands Police, President of Little League, Coach of the Little League Giants, and served on the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marion, sons: James and his wife Karen, John and his wife Kathy, and daughters: Kelly and her husband Tom Azevedo, Karin and her husband Ben Hogan, and Kimberly and her husband Matt Dewalt. He is also survived by two brothers, three sisters, seven grandchildren: Jimmy (Kristina), John (Kristina), Alex (Tom), Erik (Courtney), Luke, Peyton and Riley; and nine great grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his grandson Scott.
As per his request, there will be no Visitation. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 30th at Blessed Sacrament Chapel, Route 9W, Fort Montgomery, NY. Interment will follow in Eagle Valley Cemetery, Town of Highlands, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations of a non-perishable food item to a local food bank or pantry.
