Mildred G. Lewis passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 at Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation in Goshen, NY. She was 84 years old. Daughter of the late John Gunza and Theresa Bonak Gunza, she was born May 14, 1933 in West Point, NY. Mildred was the widow of John Vernon Lewis who passed away in 2008.
After working for 36 years at U.S.M.A. at West Point, beginning in 1953, Mildred was at one point the most senior female employee there, retiring as an Account Clerk from the Finance Dept. She was a member of Highlanders Senior Citizens of Highland Falls and past President of the Highland Falls Fire Dept. Ladies Auxillary.
Survivors include her loving daughter, Carol Ann Brown and her husband Daniel of Blooming Grove, NY; her brother, John Gunza and his wife June of Highland Falls, NY; her brother-in-law David Richardson of Highland Falls, NY; her sister-in-law Phoebe Browne of Highland Falls, NY; her four grandchildren: Courtney Wright and her husband Bradley, Daniel Brown and his wife Erin, Cassandra DeLuca and her husband Marc; her four great-grandchildren: Alexis, Daniel, Teagan and Gabriella; and several nieces and nephews. Mildred was predeceased by her sisters: Julia Glenn, Theresa Winters and Catherine Richardson.
The family would like to recognize and thank the staff at Valley View, Echo unit, for all their loving care during Mom's stay with them.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17th at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Highland Falls, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 18th at Sacred Heart Church, 353 Main Street, Highland Falls, NY. Interment will follow in Eagle Valley Cemetery in the Town of Highlands, NY.
