When Sharon was born prematurely, weighing 2 lb. 10oz., she was considered a miracle baby. Sharon spent her first 80 days in an incubator at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.
Throughout her life Sharon was a fighter. She met her husband while being a member in a local teen group. Later in her life Sharon enjoyed many happy years at Roosevelt House in Montgomery and Occupations at Campbell Hall. During the summers Sharon loved to spend time at Lake Ontario. Her hobbies included writing letters and arts and crafts. Her winning personality and determination has led to many new friendships.
She is survived at home by her parents, David and Lorna Johnston, and her husband, Michael Murphy of Middletown, NY, her brother, Douglas Johnston and his wife Monica of Wilmington, NC, her aunts; Beverly Fennhahn of Rock Tavern, NY, Anne Rutherdale and husband Karl Kuhlmann, of Portala Valley, CA, her nieces and nephews; Robert, Nicholas, Victoria and many cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers for the exceptional outpouring of love and support she received through Kaplan House, Roosevelt House and Campbell Hall ARC. Their appreciation also includes many incredibly supportive family and friends, who supported them during times of need.
Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY. A Celebration of Sharon's life will take place at a later date.
