COL Alan Anthony Fox, Sr., USA (Ret), passed away April 16, 2010 at the Castle Point VA Hospital. Alan was born in Moberly, MO, May 7, 1948 to COL Francis A. Fox, USA (Ret) and Suzette Scneder Fox.
A dedicated member of the West Point community, he graduated from La Salle High School in Pasadena, CA, and was appointed to the US Military Academy Preparatory School in June 1966. Upon graduating from the US Military Academy in 1971, Alan was commissioned as a Field Artillery officer and later graduated from Airborne Ranger School. He received his Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Duke University in 1980 in addition to graduating from Command General Staff College in Newport, RI and the Army War College in Carlisle, PA.
Alan received many awards during his 31 years of active duty service including having twice been awarded the Legion of Merit, six times awarded Meritorious Service Medal, twice awarded Army Achievement Medal, twice awarded National Defense Service Medal, five times awarded Overseas Service Ribbon, and two Army Commendation Medals in addition to proudly having maxed out every PT test he had ever taken. After completing several overseas tours and stateside assignments Alan retired as Colonel in 2000 as Deputy Commandant of the US Corps of Cadets at West Point.
Alan is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Pamm, their children: Alan Jr., Bryan and his wife Laura, Courtney and her husband Dan Pareta and Kaitlyn, his sisters: Connie Taylor, Anita Kelly, Ginny Dean and brother Jon Fox, his granddaughter Colette and his always faithful dog and hiking partner Marley. He will be remembered as a proud member of the US Army, devoted Army football fan, an accomplished athlete/tri-athlete and loving husband, father and grandfather.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 PM, Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Most Holy Trinity Chapel, West Point. Interment will follow in Post Cemetery, West Point.
