Thomas “Tom” J. Olivia Jr, 72, a lifelong 3rd generation resident of Highland Falls, passed away at home on November 18, 2018.
He was born on September 21, 1946 in Cornwall to the late Thomas J. and JoAnn (Cuaz) Olivia. Tom graduated from Marist College in 1972 with a Bachelors in Business and later graduated from Long Island University (CW Post) with a Masters in Public Administration.
He worked for the Social Security Administration (SSA) as a Claims/Field Representative and helped countless beneficiaries as part of his 35 year public service career. In 2009, he retired from the agency he loved so much.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (Martello); his three beloved sons, Daniel (Aleena), Patrick (Lindsey) and Peter, all of Highland Falls. Tom was a proud grandfather, better known as Keepa, to Julia, Daniel Jr. and Alyssa. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jimmy Martello and sister-in-law, Juanita (Donnie) Cameron and their children. Additional survivors include cousins Cathi (Tom), Michael (Laura), Stacey (Michael) and Pete (Robin) as well as Mary “Angel” Hannan, widow of his late cousin Pete.
Tom was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Highland Falls. He was a dedicated participant throughout his life beginning as an elementary school altar boy. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Chapter 515. He loved to read, play chess, complete crossword puzzles and lose to his wife in word games!
He was very thankful for the many kindnesses bestowed upon him by his family, friends and exceptional doctors and medical personnel.
A celebration of life will be held next year. Please remember Tom by doing a good deed or contributing to a charity of your choosing.
