January 20, 1934 – April 5, 2021
Kathleen M. DeLuca Was called home at Hackensack Meridian Health, Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin, NJ.
New York City born, January 1934, and raised - Staten Island, the Bronx (Parkchester), St. Helena's Church and School, Pace College - the beloved daughter of Joseph and Ethel Durkin, Kathleen met Tony, the man of her dreams in 1952 at West Point, NY, and married her husband of 67+ years at St. Helena's in 1953, following his West Point graduation.
Raising their family of 6 children, they traveled the world together in their quest for adventure, knowledge, and cultural experiences. The "dreamer" half of these loving partners, Kathy made and lived her dreams and priorities for family and friendships at their sanctuary home in Loveladies, Long Beach Island, NJ, making all occasions special for each other, and others. Kathy most highly valued life's experiences over possessions. Her love of literature and the arts was most evident through her on-going participation in continuing education, beautiful letters and writing, and her especially cherished participation on the board of the Philadelphia Theatre Company. An avid researcher of our ancestry and history, this family cheerleader, gatherer, peacemaker, protector and matriarch was unconditionally kind, loving and forgiving in spirit. The independence, strength, and support of this graceful and classy lady has encouraged, inspired and motivated us all.
Kathleen's family is especially grateful for the response and efforts of EMT's, medical staff of Hackensack Meridian Health Southern Ocean Medical Center, our dear friends, and Father Ken of St. Mary's, Manahawkin.
